Today we went up to hike Mother Neff State Park, north of Belton Lake.
The southern end of the park is currently flooded out, so we went to the main park entrance and then started off on the Prairie Loop Trail. (full park map here)
From where we started off, it was open country, which was part of why we wanted to go early:
We took the detour over to the pond to check it out as well
Then we took the Pond Trail deeper into the park, quickly finding the camping area before heading off into the woods down the Live Oak Trail.
We came across the blind and bird bath as well.
And then it was the Rock Tower
After nearly colliding with a very large spider web, we headed up to the Wash Pond:
And after that we looped back towards the parking lot and came out of the woods again.
Overall, not at all a bad morning hike
That says we went 2.4 miles, but we actually forgot to turn on the tracker until after the pond, so I'm gonna call it closer to 3.
We're pretty novice hikers and not exactly in shape, but it wasn't too bad of a hike. There was some hills involved after the tower, but nothing major. Going in the morning was certainly a good idea, and there was a breeze which also helped. As this park is pretty close to me, it's one I'll almost certainly go to it again, though it's not a park I'd go out of my way to visit.
